Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope
About the Exhibition
Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated at the San Bernardino County Museum, Sep. 13 to Oct. 20, 2024, with the exhibit Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope. The theme, Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope, challenges us to envision a great future knowing that our hope and resilience can lead us there. Hope and resilience help us maintain an optimistic outlook in the face of adversity and give us the motivation to take action and make progress. Organized and curated in partnership with the Inland Empire Latino Art Association, the exhibit features works by 29 local Inland Empire artists.
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the contributions and importance of Hispanics and Latinos to the United States and those American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
