Black Renaissance: A Contemporary Reflection on the Creative Legacy of the Harlem Renaissance
On view February 1 – March 1
This February, the San Bernardino County Museum invites you to experience Black Renaissance, a month-long exhibition presented in partnership with the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce and on view February 1 through March 1 in conjunction with Black History Month.
About the Artists
Black Renaissance brings together the work of twelve artists selected by the Chamber, showcasing paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works that reflect a wide range of perspectives shaped by cultural memory, resilience, and contemporary life. Through vivid color and thoughtful composition, the artists transform lived experience into powerful acts of self-expression.
The Harlem Renaissance
The exhibition echoes the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance—an influential cultural movement of the 1920s and 1930s—while grounding its focus firmly in the present. The works respond to the social, political, and economic climate of Southern California, exploring themes of identity, heritage, community, and everyday life. Together, they offer a window into the richness and resilience of contemporary Black culture and invite visitors to consider connections across histories, generations, and shared experience.

Opening Reception
Join us for an opening reception on January 31 from 6–8 PM at the San Bernardino County Museum.
The reception is open to the public, with 50% off general admission for guests; museum members attend free. Light refreshments will be provided.
Whether you’re drawn to contemporary art, interested in cultural history, or simply looking for a meaningful museum experience, Black Renaissance offers space to pause, reflect, and engage with art that speaks to both the present moment and enduring creative legacy. We invite you to visit, explore, and be part of this shared celebration of creativity and expression.
