Minerals Activity | Hall of Earth Sciences, Mineral Cart

Learn about the minerals that make up your everyday life by visiting us during our mineral play sensory hour! Our educators will be facilitating our mineral cart in our Hall of Earth Sciences on the second floor in our Minerals Rocks! exhibit space, where you can magnify, feel, and even smell different minerals. Dig deep into our kinetic sand mineral bins as part of the sensory play fun!

Sensory Hours offer a calmer way to experience the San Bernardino County Museum. During this time, lighting is softened and the museum environment is quieter to create a more comfortable, low-sensory setting for visitors who prefer a gentler museum experience.

Sensory Hours are especially welcoming for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including those on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing differences, but they are open to anyone who enjoys exploring the museum in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Each month, the museum’s education team hosts hands-on sensory activities in a different exhibit hall. These guided experiences may include tactile exploration, art activities, or opportunities to interact with natural materials connected to the museum’s collections. Activities vary each month and are designed to encourage curiosity, discovery and playful learning in a supportive environment.

• Free for children five and under
• Museum Foundation members receive 50% off admission
