Pumpkins may be a fall favorite, but they begin their journey in early summer. Join Gloria from Sprout and Blossom in the STEAM Outdoor Classroom for Pumpkin Palooza, a hands-on gardening experience designed for children and their families.
In this engaging outdoor session, young learners will discover how pumpkins grow—from seed to vine—and why timing matters when planting. Participants will explore soil, sunlight, watering, and pollination while learning what it takes to nurture a thriving pumpkin patch.
Through guided activities and observation, families will gain a deeper understanding of plant life cycles and the science behind growing seasonal crops.
STEAM Outdoors invites children and families to step outside and explore the living world through hands-on learning and creative discovery. SBCM is excited to partner with Sprout and Blossom for this monthly program that connects science, nature, and art through lessons on gardening, food systems, insects, and the beauty of the natural world. Each session encourages curiosity, care for the Earth, and an understanding of how people and nature are deeply connected—an essential chapter in the story of us.
STEAM Outdoors takes place once each month and is offered in two sessions:
Participation is free with general museum admission. Space is limited to 20 children per session and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
