History
The Oro Grande Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the Victor Valley area, was established in the 1890s and received its last internment in the mid-1960s. Ownership was transferred to San Bernardino County in the 1970s. It is designated by the State of California Office of Historic Preservation as a Point of Historic Interest (P404) and features a memorial in honor of Lt. Manuel P. Rodriguez who lost his life in 1942 while serving overseas. Rodriguez’ Purple Heart is on display at the Victor Valley Museum.
Located at the center of the Oro Grande Cemetery stands a memorial in honor of Lt. Manuel P. Rodriguez who lost his life on January 16, 1942, while serving his country overseas.
