Cheryl Brown and sister\, Regina Brown-Wilson – Black Voice News curators\, Hardy Brown II and Paulette Brown-Hinds\, share some hard truths about the organization’s work as local government watchdogs but as recorders of Black life in the Inland Empire\, including profiles of leaders making a difference in communities across the region\, coverage of community events\, mapping community assets\, and reporting on the fight for social justice and racial equity.\n\nThe exhibit\, Power of the Press: Black Voice News @ 50\, currently on display at San Bernardino County Museum highlights not only the organization’s work as local government watchdogs but as recorders of Black life in the Inland Empire\, including profiles of leaders making a difference in communities across the region\, coverage of community events\, mapping community assets\, and reporting on the fight for social justice and racial equity. The exhibit officially closes Sunday\, April 28.\n\nThe San Bernardino County Museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands. Museum galleries will be open during the event with general admission pricing which is $10 (adult)\, $8 (military/senior)\, $7 (student)\, and $5 (children ages 6 to 12). Museum Association members receive a 50% discount on admission. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.\n\nThe Riverside Astronomical Society has a history of civic and educational support since its beginnings in 1957. The RAS owes its start to people who saw the need to promote a better awareness of astronomy to the general public. They also saw a need for a common forum for amateur astronomers to further develop and advance their hobby. These goals are still the cornerstone of the RAS’s mission.

DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the health benefits of mushrooms and why they are good for us. You will also have the opportunity to receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the new exhibit\, Mushrooms: Keys to the Kingdom Fungi.\n\nMuseum will be open\, regular admission applies. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.\n\nAbout the Mycologist:\nBriana Boaz fell in love with fungi while attending the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF). She then completed a Master’s at UC Berkeley\, researching plant ecology\, mycology\, and soil science. She studied the symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi of pine species such as invasive lodgepole pines in New Zealand and ancient bristlecone pines in the White Mountains of California (oldest living organism in the world!). Briana is currently the Natural Resources Professor & Program Coordinator at Santa Rosa Junior College in Sonoma County. When not professing\, she enjoys hiking\, backpacking\, and mushroom hunting.

DESCRIPTION:Learn about the wonderful world of fungi from yeast and chanterelles to zombie-inducing cordyceps. You will also have the opportunity to receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the new exhibit\, “Mushrooms: Keys to the Kingdom Fungi.” General admission is $10 (adult)\, $8 (military or senior)\, $7 (student)\, and $5 (child ages 6 to 12). Parking is free\, and the museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. \nAbout the Mycologist: \n \nBriana Boaz fell in love with fungi while attending the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF). \nShe then completed a Master’s at UC Berkeley\, researching plant ecology\, mycology\, and soil science. She studied the symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi of pine species such as invasive lodgepole pines in New Zealand and ancient bristlecone pines in the White Mountains of California (oldest living organism in the world!). \nBriana is currently the Natural Resources Professor & Program Coordinator at Santa Rosa Junior College in Sonoma County. When not professing\, she enjoys hiking\, backpacking\, and mushroom hunting.

DESCRIPTION:Mushrooms: Keys to the Kingdom Fungi is an exhibit vividly portraying the intriguing lives and important roles of fungi in our environment. While the Fungi Kingdom includes more than one million species\, this exhibit primarily focuses on the mushroom-producing fungi\, but will touch on the idea of other fungi – including molds and yeasts – as well. The exhibit is based around 30 photographs of mushrooms (the fruiting bodies of fungi) in the wild\, taken by Northern California plantspeople and naturalists\, John Whittlesey and Jennifer Jewell.

General admission is $10 (adult)\, $8 (military or senior)\, $7 (student)\, and $5 (child ages 6 to 12). Children five and under and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.

DESCRIPTION:Seeds: Nature’s Artful Engineering is an exhibit vividly portraying the incredible diversity\, ingenuity and beauty of seed dispersal mechanism of plants native to California. Seeds and their dispersal mechanisms are one of the final stages in the evolutionary biology of flowering plants. Against many\, many odds they are the final step in ensuring the survival of plant life. The exhibit is based around 30 + high-resolution\, close up photographs of the seed structures and dispersal mechanisms of California native plants taken in the wild and in garden settings by Northern California plantspeople and naturalists\, John Whittlesey and Jennifer Jewell.
