The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.\n\nThe Riverside Astronomical Society has a history of civic and educational support since its beginnings in 1957. The RAS owes its start to people who saw the need to promote a better awareness of astronomy to the general public. They also saw a need for a common forum for amateur astronomers to further develop and advance their hobby. These goals are still the cornerstone of the RAS’s mission.

She then completed a Master’s at UC Berkeley\, researching plant ecology\, mycology\, and soil science. She studied the symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi of pine species such as invasive lodgepole pines in New Zealand and ancient bristlecone pines in the White Mountains of California (oldest living organism in the world!). Briana is currently the Natural Resources Professor & Program Coordinator at Santa Rosa Junior College in Sonoma County. When not professing\, she enjoys hiking\, backpacking\, and mushroom hunting.

We will have our museum curators stationed inside with objects from their respective collections and cart talks with volunteers from the museum’s Education Department highlighting educational objects and materials. Our curatorial program will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout our museum spaces. DESCRIPTION:Handle with Care\, a special project of the MexiCali Biennial program\, Land of Milk and Honey\, exhibit researches and explores the use of the Opuntia\, a genus in the family of Cactaceae that includes the prickly pear cactus (nopal)\, as an alternative resource in the struggle against climate change. By exploring the historical\, cultural\, and biological uses of the cactus\, alternative ideas for its use present themselves to help mitigate the effects of weather-related phenomena due to climate change. \nWe invite our visitors to a FREE exhibit opening reception on Saturday\, February 4th from 5-7pm. SUMMARY:Cosmic Nights
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Cosmic Nights with the High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS) featuring telescope viewing. The event takes place outdoors\, weather permitting\, and guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Museum galleries will be open during the event and regular admission applies.\n\nBased at the Luz Observatory in Apple Valley\, HiDAS was formed to provide trained\, volunteer astronomers to operate and maintain the Center’s astronomical equipment. The evenings feature telescope viewing\, an opportunity to discuss astronomy with the telescope operators\, and visitors are also encouraged to bring binoculars or set up their own telescopes.  Tickets can be purchased in advance here.
