Rocks connect us to the land beneath our feet\, to time\, and to one another—and through creativity\, they become storytellers. \nDuring this hands-on Second Saturday program\, children are invited to paint and decorate their own rocks\, transforming natural materials into personal works of art. This relaxed\, drop-in activity encourages creativity\, self-expression\, and a sense of belonging—reminding young artists that their stories live here\, too.

The day will also feature hands-on preparedness demonstrations\, expert speakers\, resources\, and emergency supplies at partner booths. We’ve partnered with many groups throughout the county that will be on hand to get you better prepared for any kind of disaster.\nThe event takes place outdoors in the Museum’s parking lot and is free to all attendees. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.\nBased at the Luz Observatory in Apple Valley\, HiDAS was formed to provide trained\, volunteer astronomers to operate and maintain the Center’s astronomical equipment. The evenings feature telescope viewing\, an opportunity to discuss astronomy with the telescope operators\, and visitors are also encouraged to bring binoculars or set up their own telescopes.
