DESCRIPTION:Get inspired\, take action\, be part of the green revolution on Earth Day! Join us at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday\, April 20th for a full day of earth-friendly activities. The museum has something for everyone including the opportunity to make wildflower seed bombs. All activities are included with a regular museum admission.\n\nDid you know the United States is home to over 4\,000 species of native bees? Most people know relatively little about native bees considering how important they are to climate resilience through the pollination of native flowers and agricultural crops. To save the native bees we must first get to know them. Join National Geographic Explorer\, TEDx speaker\, and community scientist Krystle Hickman as she takes us on a journey to a deeper appreciation and understanding of these charismatic creatures. Through Krystle’s stunning macro photography\, you will learn what makes them so special and recognize the signs of a healthy garden. The San Bernardino County Museum\, in partnership with the San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District\, is excited to welcome renowned photographer\, speaker\, and community scientist Krystle Hickman to speak on the topics of melittology\, community science\, and photography as a tool for scientific discovery and ecosystem resilience. Following her presentation\, participants will get a chance to tour through the museum’s water-wise garden with Krystle to try their hand at scientific photography by helping add findings to this years’ City Nature Challenge project on iNaturalist. Krystle will share tips for photographing native bees for ID in your own backyard\, city parks\, or nature preserves with a camera or cell phone. Topics will include basic camera settings\, how to use the histogram\, and advice for choosing a lens. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras and cell phones! Those that participate will receive the chance to win one of seven Krystle Hickman’s Native Bees of The Western United States flashcard decks\, featuring her photography.\n10:30AM-11:15AM – Presentation by Krystle Hickman in the Fisk Gallery\n11:15AM-12:00PM – Photography tour of Native Plant Gardens\n\nThe fun keeps going at the museum from 1PM-4PM\, where you can learn how to make seed bombs with native plant seeds (while supplies last) and hang out with Curator of Integrated Biology\, Mackenzie Kirchner-Smith\, who will be outdoors in our courtyard talking about citizen science and teaching visitors on how to use the app iNaturalist to document the wildlife in our local area.

DESCRIPTION:The San Bernardino County Museum Foundation announces its ninth annual Bucky Ball Gala taking place on the evening of Saturday\, May 18\, 2024. The Foundation is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands and its branches\, including the Victor Valley Museum in Apple Valley. The fundraising event supports the Museum’s mission of developing appreciation and sparking curiosity in regional cultural arts\, history\, and natural and earth sciences through exhibits and educational programming. Guests are encouraged to fill out an interest form if they would like to attend. Tickets will be $150 per person\, $125 for members. A non-member table for ten can be purchased for $1\,500 or $1\,250 for members. Guests who are unable to attend are encouraged to consider donating or becoming a sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities include a $15\,000 Presenting Sponsor\, $10\,000 Titanium Sponsor\, $5\,000 Platinum Sponsor\, $2\,500 Gold Sponsor\, $1\,000 Silver Sponsor\, and $500 Copper Sponsor. The event takes place outdoors\, weather permitting\, and guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Museum galleries will be open during the event. Museum Foundation members receive a 50% discount on admission. Parking is free. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. Local food vendors will be onsite including Kona Ice of Redlands\, Funnel Kake Frenzy\, Sweet Treat Kingdom and So-Cal Pop. The partnership helps SBVAA\, founded in 1958\, achieve their goal of introducing the community to astronomy\, to organize amateur astronomers in the San Bernardino Valley area\, and to increase knowledge and excitement in astronomy.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Cosmic Nights with the High Desert Astronomical Society (HiDAS) featuring telescope viewing. The event takes place outdoors\, weather permitting\, and guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Museum galleries will be open during the event. General admission is $10 (adult)\, $8 (military or senior)\, $7 (student)\, and $5 (child ages 6 to 12). Children five and under are free. Museum Foundation members receive a 50% discount on admission. Parking is free. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. Based at the Luz Observatory in Apple Valley\, HiDAS was formed to provide trained\, volunteer astronomers to operate and maintain the Center’s astronomical equipment. The evenings feature telescope viewing\, an opportunity to discuss astronomy with the telescope operators\, and visitors are also encouraged to bring binoculars or set up their own telescopes.

DESCRIPTION:The San Bernardino County Museum is now offering Quiet Hour at the museum from 9 to 10 a.m. on select Wednesdays. This time is dedicated to creating a calmer\, quieter museum experience. We remain open to the public during this time\, and all are welcome to visit the museum. During this time\, specific exhibit features in the main museum building will be turned off to minimize audio and visual stimulation. We recommend an hour for your visit\, so you can fully enjoy the exhibits\, gardens\, and museum store. A drop-in meditation space will be provided in the Schuiling Gallery from 9 to 10 a.m. All exhibits will be fully turned on at 10 a.m. Admission purchased during sensory-friendly quiet hours is the same as standard admission and applies to the entire day. The store will open at 9 a.m. on Quiet Hour mornings.
