DESCRIPTION:February invites us to slow down\, reflect\, and consider how small gestures can carry deep meaning. \nJoin us for a Second Saturday inspired by National Bird Feeding Month. Kids will create an owl flying craft and a simple bird feeder. Feeding birds is a simple act that can teach children to be more conscientious about birds\, their habitats\, and how people and wildlife share the same spaces. \nSecond Saturdays are designed to be relaxed\, welcoming\, and accessible\, offering families an opportunity to create together while engaging with the museum in a meaningful way.

SUMMARY:STEAM Outdoors with Sprout and Blossom: Stone Fruit
DESCRIPTION:February STEAM Outdoors: Stone Fruit\nThis month\, STEAM Outdoors explores stone fruit and the important role fruit trees play in our lives. Children will learn how fruits grow from blossoms to harvest and how people have cultivated and shared fruit for generations. Through hands-on discovery\, young learners will uncover how food connects us to the land\, to one another\, and to the story of us—rooted in care\, patience\, and seasonal change. \nA Hands-On Nature Program for Curious Young Learners \nSTEAM Outdoors invites children and families to step outside and explore the living world through hands-on learning and creative discovery. SBCM is excited to partner with Sprout and Blossom for this monthly program that connects science\, nature\, and art through lessons on gardening\, food systems\, insects\, and the beauty of the natural world. Each session encourages curiosity\, care for the Earth\, and an understanding of how people and nature are deeply connected—an essential chapter in the story of us. \nSTEAM Outdoors takes place once each month and is offered in two sessions: \n\n10:30–11:15 a.m.\n11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.\n\nParticipation is free with general museum admission. Space is limited to 20 children per session and is available on a first-come\, first-served basis.

Sometimes all it takes is seeing someone else step forward to realize you can\, too. \n\nFeatured Authors\nIpyani Lockert – Poet\, author\, and community leader whose motivational works\, including I Am Living Dreams and Losing Wait\, encourage personal growth and intentional living. \nPorscha N. Dillard – Grief advocate and founder of Off The Chain Alliance\, whose work centers on healing\, compassion\, and support for individuals navigating loss. \nNikki Nichole Granger – Author of Seven 7 Keys: It’s a Movement!\, entrepreneur\, and philanthropist focused on intentional living and expanding access to opportunity through business and nonprofit leadership. \nJayne Kennedy – Award-winning author\, producer\, and pioneering sportscaster. Her memoir Plain Jayne reflects on a life shaped by cultural change\, professional firsts\, and personal resilience. \nGerry Johns (Ashiirafu Kamari) – Writer\, educator\, and advocate whose book Make Life Decisions\, Stay Alert promotes critical thinking\, accountability\, and informed decision-making. \nTerrance Stone – Writer and creative thinker exploring identity\, purpose\, and human connection through reflective storytelling. \nSheilah Y.
